Pilates
Pilates is a uniquely precise and intelligent approach to exercise and body-conditioning. It is a method that is suitable for all ages, all abilities and there is no need for prior knowledge of any form of training/exercise. It is a gentle, non-aerobic method of exercise to lengthen and strengthen the muscles, improving posture without stressing the joints or heart.
Like Yoga and Tai Chi, Pilates uses breathing, control and precise exercises to strengthen the postural muscular system. Pilates is based on a different philosophy to the cardio-vascular fitness regime of exercise, but can be used along side a cardio-vascular fitness program. The advantage of the Pilates method of exercise is that many muscle groups can be worked at any one time in patterns that are 'functional'. This builds coordinated efficient strength, unlike traditional weights, which tends to focus on a single muscle group.
Pilates is a movement therapy that promotes balance, strength, coordination and flexibility through a series of progressive and functional exercises. The slow and focused movements work the body from the inside out. It improves alignment, posture and increases flexibility and core muscle strength, without building bulk muscle. It is beneficial for those suffering with back pain or general injuries and for rehabilitation after surgery. It is an excellent form of exercise during and after pregnancy.
You can learn Pilates either in a group sessions known as mat classes, or in a dedicated studio. Our studio is fully equipped with all the latest Pilates apparatus. Our highly qualified instructors ensure that all exercises are both safe and effective giving you the results you want quickly. Clients work primarily on resistance equipment based on the original designs of Joe Pilates to strengthen, stretch and tone specific muscle groups. The equipment is versatile enough to benefit people requiring rehabilitation and equally those looking for a more challenging workout. Because emphasis is placed on tailoring the Pilates technique to suit the individual needs of each client, sessions are limited to a maximum of three people being booked into the studio at one time. Sessions are 1 hour in duration. During this time, clients work on their own individual programme under close supervision of the instructor.
